Medical Equipment Currency Transfers Halted for Three Months

Alireza Chizari, head of the Association of Medical and Pharmaceutical Equipment Suppliers, stated that for the past three months, currency transfers for medical equipment and drugs have faced significant delays and serious issues. He said, “Companies are trying to build a strategic stockpile, but liquidity is either transferred very slowly or not at all.”

Chizari, recalling the vital role of these companies during the Iran-Iraq War, added, “During the 12-day period of the war, pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies ensured that patients faced no shortages or pressure. But today, due to currency transfer problems, the situation is more difficult than before.”

He emphasized, “To ensure patient comfort and reliably meet hospital needs, it is essential to establish a one-year strategic reserve. Unfortunately, intermediary companies handling currency transfers, for unclear reasons including fees, have taken funds from suppliers but have not delivered the foreign currency to producers for three months.”

According to Chizari, many companies have had to rely on bank loans or financial partnerships to secure the necessary funds, paying several percent interest, “but now, due to delays and non-delivery of currency, additional pressure is placed on these companies and, consequently, on the country’s healthcare system.”
