600,000 E-Prescriptions Registered Daily

The CEO of the Iran Health Insurance Organization announced that around 600,000 electronic prescriptions are registered every day, with more than 500 million e-prescriptions issued since the nationwide rollout of the electronic prescription system. The organization is also expanding digital services and smart technologies to improve efficiency, transparency, and access to healthcare.
The CEO of the Iran Health Insurance Organization, Mohammad Mehdi Nassehi, said the country now registers an average of 600,000 electronic prescriptions per day, totaling approximately 220 million annually. Since the launch of electronic prescribing and the elimination of paper health insurance booklets, more than 500 million e-prescriptions have been processed.
Nassehi said the organization has developed over 60 digital platforms and smart systems to modernize health insurance services, including electronic prescribing, integrated insurance management, electronic inpatient claims processing, and online contract management.
He added that insured citizens can now access healthcare services at contracted medical centers using only their national ID cards, while mobile and online platforms allow users to view their insurance and treatment records remotely. According to Nassehi, these initiatives are part of the organization’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at improving service quality, transparency, and public access while reducing administrative costs.
