Increase in Medical Program Enrollment Capacity Next Year

Mohammadreza Zafarghandi, Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, announced that the admission capacity for medical students will undergo significant changes starting next year. According to the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, the planned 20% increase in medical school admissions will not be implemented.

He clarified that this does not mean a reduction in capacity but rather that the previously proposed 20% increase will not take effect. The minister emphasized that the overall admission numbers will remain stable, and there will be no significant decrease in the number of accepted students.

This decision comes amid ongoing debates in recent years regarding the expansion of medical school capacities and the need for more healthcare professionals in the country. Some experts argue that increasing medical program capacities could enhance healthcare services and address the shortage of doctors in various regions. However, others express concerns about maintaining the quality of education and ensuring students are adequately prepared for their professional careers.

With the cancellation of the 20% increase, applicants will continue to face high competition for medical school admission. However, since the overall capacity will not decrease, there is still hope that sufficient opportunities will be available for aspiring medical students.
