excessive health expenses in Iran

As government officials have said, more than 50% of household income is spent on providing housing. The rest of the income remains for other expenses such as food, transportation, health, etc. Health costs are so high that some even prohibit part of the treatment.

The conflict between different groups, including the parliament, the Food and Drug Organization, pharmacists, etc., was not useful for the management of the drug market. Every once in a while, some drugs become scarce in the market and their prices increase.

High treatment costs occur for three main reasons: the high share of out-of-pocket payments in health costs, the low income capacity of the household, and the weakness of prepayment and risk pooling mechanisms in health care financing.
