An Iranian doctor won the title of the best invention and innovative technique in heart surgery in the world

Heart surgery (mitral valve repair using the patient’s own tissue) was performed at Shiraz Faghihi Hospital by Dr. Amir Ghofran.

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network as the global reference for evaluating achievements in this field, in its latest assessment, awarded the title of the best innovation and innovative technique in heart surgery in the world to the cardiac surgeon specializing in heart and vascular surgery.

Dr. Ahmad Ali Amir Ghaferan, a cardiac surgeon specializing in heart and vascular surgery and a faculty member of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, said: In these repairs, for patients with heart valve problems, instead of using tissue from another individual or synthetic tissue, the patient’s own heart tissue is used, as the body does not reject it and there are no complications from artificial valves.

He added: In other words, parts of the heart tissue that have less significance for the patient or are not as essential are reconfigured using a specific technique to create and utilize valves for other parts that are crucial.
